Distracted by GOD’s Goodness

Posted on

I heard the devil gloating the other day. He stuck out his tongue at me (the nerve) and boasted of a conquest. He had succeeded in blinding a group of people as he moves to his next level of attack in this particular situation. I threw my hands in the air and for one split second entertained a thought of disgust and frustration. Then my God arose immediately with healing and comfort in His wings. Sent His word and revelation through His wonderful and ‘in-tune’ under-shepherds and sent me on my way. His goodness and loving kindness, caused me to look away from what would vex my soul and grieve the Spirit of God in me.

I am incredibly blessed!!! The amount of love, fellowship, comfort and care that was bestowed on me this past week (by friends, family, well-wishers and strangers alike); as divinely orchestrated by this awesome God of mine was unexpected and mind-boggling to say the least. I am grateful and even more fired-up to give my wonderful God His due praise!

The religious elitist and supremacist may keep up with their snide remarks, as they encourage and protect Baal. I will keep looking to the hills from whence cometh my help, and rejoice with the seven thousand (7000) that are unmoved by the smoothness of the snake and therefore unbowed…

“I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.”
1 Kings 19:17-19

God has not only promised me, but He has shown me that there are so many with me, howbeit in spirit than there are with the ‘movers and shakers’.  My favorite preacher always says, “when you have got nothing to lose, you have nothing to fear”. Let the fearful and unbelieving, remain trapped with their high stakes. It is well with me and I rest my case. Let events unfold as they soon horribly will; while I abide under the shadow of the Almighty. This is not a prophecy, just a fact.

14“Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.

15And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?

16And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

17And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

18And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.”

May the will of the Almighty God be done in our midst.

Vessels of Victory (A Non-Poetic Ode) Subject #1

“Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.”
Matthew 10:7-9

God has amazingly crammed a whole lot of divinely inspired adventures into my few but action-packed days. Some were slipped in by the enemy every now and then (wheat and the tares), but all were turned around for my good and God’s glory. I was shocked when the Most High started speaking to me about events tucked away neatly and maybe forever (or so I thought) in my subconscious. These events were so secret and powerful, that I dared not speak about them. But God who inspired them, wants to speak about them. He is able to protect these ‘Vessels of Victory’ as He has asked me to call them. The stories will be told as they happened, with their identities protected of course. But more than their identities being protected, God will stir and anoint these stories in such a way that, should the ‘Victors’ recognize themselves, they will be blessed to know that they had walked the hall of faith by faith long before their deliverance was tangible. They pleased God when they believed that help could come from such ‘an unlikely and frail source’. They will know also that because they sought out that ‘weak unlikely vessel’ (that would be my humble self); in obedience to God’s bidding they are the true heroes here. For if they had not obeyed, there will be no stories to tell, no thanks to give and no other person to encourage and help.

Vera (not her real name) was a top model. She was tall, skinny but athletically built as opposing to the waif-look, usually sought by the industry greats. If you doubt me, just look out your window this ‘Fashion Week’, and if you still don’t get it, step out in the street. A stiletto clad six-foot tall and ninety pound figurine just might crush your toe. Most of Vera’s peers are big names that you would know if I mentioned them in this writing. So the question becomes what happened to her, and how did she become derailed. At this point, I don’t believe that Vera would call it a derailment. She would probably declare that it was the work of a Faithful God to save her despondent soul. I would of course agree with her a 100%; knowing first hand the choice and price you have to pay because you choose not to sell your soul to the devil. Or if you mistakenly sold it, the arduous task of re-claiming your ‘stuff’ and soul back. It’s never really just walking the ‘Runway’, it is a relinquishing of your identity, a branding of your soul and a discarding of your very being and essence along with your values. The Fashion world have taken their place in the cusp and necessity of society. It is no longer something you do while you go to Med-School, (They would throw you out the curb, faster than it took you to say your name). They expect that should you choose to be a part of the fashion industry (and if you do qualify of course); you have to give a 100% of your allegiance and devotion. “Their god would be your god…”, and wherever they go and do in the name of fashion and entertainment, there you go and do also…

Vera claimed she had received the Lord when she first met me, and wanted to grow in that knowledge. She felt that hanging around me would teach her a thing or two about how to live for the Lord. She made it sound like window-shopping, ‘look and enjoy, but do not pay anything for it’. Another mistake Vera made was she wanted everything she saw in my life overnight. She did not have the time to wait on God or go through any process of dreams being aborted, relentless but defeated attacks and years of uncertainty. When I perceived that about her, I let her ride, but from a distance. With time I mused, if she hangs around long enough she will get the real deal and picture, howbeit painfully. So days and months passed, and Vera regaled me with stories of her past. The promiscuous life-style (way too many men to count), the worship of various deities and sacrifices to achieve beauty, wealth, fame and power. The on-the whim elopement to exotic locations via private jets. At one instance, after a particular episode, the people around her began bowing to her in reverence as if she were a god. The hair on my arms stood upright as I imagined this was sure the existence of the spirit of Lucifer in the human soul. When I put together all her experiences, I sensed that the reason this poor girl had lived like this; was the violent and abusive childhood she had been exposed to. My heart bled profusely. I felt the Lord asking me to be like the sister she never had and just make myself available.

One of the things Vera had complained about to me on a constant basis was her ability to see demons and wicked spirits. She would walk into a place and they would be there jeering at her so loudly she thought every one else was hearing the same thing. They followed her every where, in the subway, in the store and physically tormented her while she slept. As a result the girl never really slept. She always had blood clotted eyes and huge bags under each eyes, and along with that came a quick sinking depression.  I was at loss on what to do for her, so I recommended a couple of Churches I had heard handled situations like that. That kind of situation was called ‘Deliverance Sessions’ and I had never seen anything like that in the Church I was attending at the time. At this time, I observed that all this demonic harassment was taking its toll on Vera and she was physically deteriorating before my eyes. Not knowing what else to do, and at the same time being inundated with my own personal issues, I just retreated into my own world where there was absolutely no demonic cavorting.

One very rainy evening, as I walked home from church, I heard someone call out my name. It appeared she had been following me for some time and was now hopelessly drenched. It was Vera, she had waited for me to exit; knowing where to find and me and had been calling and running after me for about twenty minutes. I felt drained and at loss for words when I saw her, she looked like ‘death’ itself and I told her just as much. She said things were getting worse and she really needed my help. I said along those lines of trouble, there was really nothing I could do but give her the church addresses I had researched earlier. She was not budging as she forlornly looked at me. Just in that instance; I felt the Lord nudging me to go inside with her (away from the rain). As I searched and rummaged my bag for scraps of addresses to hand over and scram, the Lord clearly spoke that I was the one to help her. I asked the Lord how and where? He said by praying in the name of  Jesus Christ and right where we were. We were now sitting in a half empty restaurant, surrounded by equally listless and overwhelmed people. I said: ‘Lord we could be arrested if I caused a scene and the demons started to manifest’. God gave me His word:  “And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him. And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.” Mark 1:25-27 KJV

With that assurance I was ready to go. I held her hand as she started crying. The whole place was filled with ‘them’ and ‘they’ were charging at her she said. I thought to myself if ‘they’ as much as touch me… mayhem would be an ‘under-word’ to use for what would go down in this place tonight :). The restaurant table-attendant eyed us surreptitiously as I got ready to pray. It was the devils final attempt to intimidate and interrupt what was about to happen. I released her hands and told her to look right at me and listen to every word I was about to say. She was to also feel free to amen the word of God Almighty as she heard them uttered. “In the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth…

She looked up, rubbed her eyes vigorously and looked again. She could not believe her eyes literally. ”They’ were gone, or should we say she was not seeing ‘them’ anymore. Girlfriend was free and remains so this day. She grows in the Lord, glows in His favor and praises Him real loud. Hmmmm, I wonder who she learnt that from.

A Vivid Vision of Victimization

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
Joel 2:27-29

He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
Numbers 24:15-17

I never did understand what was so special about that night, that had the visions roll in one after the other. It seemed God had an urgent message; but considering the amount of time it took to even come close to seeing any semblance of the revelation, there must have been another reason. Daddy pondered real hard as he sought to make meaning of what I just told him. I could almost hear his thoughts through the long distance and unstable phone connection. Two of the three visions were supposed to be public knowledge, the third was a clear-cut personal warning from heaven: ‘get rid of that thing or else it would cost you heaven’. I was petrified, I had never known God to be that sharp and abrupt. He was holy and a consuming fire. But scared or not, I knew I had to make a move and make it quick. The chilling memory as I remember; ‘being lifted jubilantly by the chariots being engineered by angelic hosts. The pomp and pageantry that surrounded my ascension, was celebratory and deafening. I felt happy, good and victorious as I was effortlessly airlifted. Then suddenly in the midst of the carnival, that thing reached out and called my name. I turned immediately to heed the temptuos call. and as I did I immediately lost my grip and fell out the chariot. As I descended. I watched in horror as heaven closed up and left behind a pervasive silence and darkness.’ That evil thing was not worth the package it arrived in and definitely was not worth my losing eternity with my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I dropped it right away like it was hot, It must have been, because I was sweating profusely, and drenched in godly-fear. “Then thou scarest me with dreams, and terrifiest me through visions:” Job 7:13-15 I never gave ‘it’ a second thought from then henceforth; and my freedom and deliverance were secure.

Daddy did not say much; he was a man of very few words but of incredible and effective God honoring action.  He said God was trying to show me a certain kind of destruction that was to come in my dreams. He said it might be for the purpose of warning and preparedness. But why me I thought to myself, I am not a prophet or a seer, and what are the odds that someone will take me seriously. ‘You are chosen’ was daddy’s  pensive retort ‘and with the passage of time, He (God) will reveal His mysteries and make known His ways’. I said to my dad; that since this city was full of skyscrapers and a couple had fallen in the vision, it seemed logical that I should high-tail back to that continent and spend time with him. He would not hear of that… I was to stay put where I was, it was safer. Safer???!! From what I countered? Shortly after that, daddy dearest would be killed in a ghastly accident; a head on collision to be precise. Daddy was the finest gentleman that continent ever produced (or any continent for that matter). He never did drink, smoke, or inhale. A scholastic and hard-working  intellect, who was passionately in love with Jesus!!! I would have chosen a different way and a different time for daddy to pass-on, but I am not God: and God is good. “In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,”  Job 4:12-14

Shortly after daddy’s death, I looked out the glass panes in the corridor on the 32nd floor of  ‘7 World Trade Center’ and knew that it was time to leave the building and the area. It did not make sense to pass up such a wonderful opportunity of growth and financial advancement that the WTC represented. But I was engulfed in grief and blinded by pain that not even the ‘not-so-mighty-dollar’ could attempt to alleviate my feeling of loss and hopelessness. I often walked across the street, during my lunch break to the Marriott Hotel Lobby to chat on my phone or read a book, when I was not shopping at the ‘Century 21 Department Store’. It was not long before that, that I walked right past my office building, the hotel, and the store: and  never looked back…

And he shall set engines of war against thy walls, and with his axes he shall break down thy towers.
Ezekiel 26:8-10

And there shall be upon every high mountain, and upon every high hill, rivers and streams of waters in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.
Isaiah 30:24-26

The next time I looked, it was forward and it was from across the ‘Manhattan Bridge‘,  WTC 1 had a gaping and a smoking hole, WTC 2 had just been hit and the jet plane was still ploughing through as terrified living beings (created in the image of God) plunged to their inevitable demise, in order to avoid the scorching and scalding heat. A few hours later WTC 7 would implode and collapse completely to the ground. I don’t know how far I would have run in a chaotic and panic-stricken atmosphere (I can sprint , but I hate and am often irritated by confusion and parambulating crowd), I might not have had the ingenuity to make it down that many flight of stairs at the nick of time. There is definitely not much I could do with dust filled eyes, nose and smoke-clogged lungs (I am chronically allergic!).  And who knows, the smell and feel of my own skin burning would have thrown me of any ledge… “It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory.I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord“. 2 Corinthians 12:1-3

I got an e-mail from one of the few close people I shared that ‘vision’ with some time before the towers fell; It arrived at around 11:41am on September 11, 2001, via company e-mail address at the German Financial Firm on 57th and Madison where I worked at the time. It simply read“OMG! — this is the vision you had described and spoken about  What do we do now??!!!… “  Meanwhile in the heavenly realm, daddy simply smiled from his eternal and glorious balcony.  His little girl(sunshine) was yet again safe and divinely preserved by an awesome and faithful God.

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
Habakkuk 2:2-4

Que Sera, Sera (the pursuit of a ‘human target’)

God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” Numbers 23:18-20

“When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi.”
Matthew 2:15-17

In the directly above verse, we see how a deranged, self-obsessed and demon-posessed King heartlessly ordered the massacre of thousands (perhaps 100’s of thousands) of innocent children from two years of age and under. They were babies, barely weaned; how much of a threat could they possible have been to a reigning king. And even if they were threats, by the time they came of age to pose in that position he should have been dead of old age or eaten alive by maggots (which thank God did happen). This blog-story though not specific, I promise: it so familiar and personal.

[ The Magi Visit the Messiah ] “After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem”
Matthew 2:1-3

After Jesus had been born, the ‘Magi’ (magicians), star-gazers or often called ‘wise-men’ came from the east to pay a worthy homage to the child (that would be Saviour and King). How did they know? And most importantly, how accurate were they in their findings and knowledge? We have to understand that since there is only one known (and functioning) physical world, there is also a spiritual world. This is where God and His Holy Trinity dwells; howbeit in an unapproachable and Holy realm. The angels, Satan and demons also dwell in the spirit world. Most people including professing Christians, would like to deny the existence of a spirit world and aspire to ignore it. That would be the perfect example of the ‘ostrich syndrome’. Just because your head is buried in the sand; there-by blocking your vision of us, does not mean we do not see your widely spread and colorfully feathered tail! Denial never validates, it just provides a temporary state of delirium for the host subject to revel in. Alright, back to the ancient east we go, before I take off on a ‘Psychological Analysis’.

In the ‘spirit’ world, there is a constant and steady flow of information and direction. Most times those information are legally or illegally carried through, into our physical world. It is legal when the Ultimate Source and provider God Himself speaks to His Prophets, through His word, dreams and visions, and divinely inspired revelations. It is absolutely illegal, when witches, wizards, sooth-sayers and demon-posessed black magic priests and priestesses, astrologers etc. tap into the spirit world for information. One of our first example will be none other than the king of dis-obedience himself – Saul: “He inquired of the LORD, but the LORD did not answer him by dreams or Urim or prophets. Saul then said to his attendants, ‘Find me a woman who is a medium, so I may go and inquire of her’.” 1 Samuel 28:6-8  He tried to inquire of the Lord to satisfy his flesh and cover his sin; therefore God did not respond. He (God) reserves the right to divulge information or not to divulge, as he deems necessary and substantial especially when it pleases him. That is why He said, ‘the just live by faith…’, the faith of waiting on Him to have His way and not trying to steal information (through mediums, witchcraft and what have you) with an intent to abort His divinely set plan (oh the nerve of man!). And subsequently, if you are not living in the faith of Him having His way and carrying out HIS WILL, then it behooves you to know now that you are not pleasing Him. “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:5-7  “Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.” Habakkuk 2:4  So when God does not respond; Saul takes matters into his own hands. We can definitely see his very progressive downward-spiral after these events.

Another person who dared to take an abominable sneak preview through a strange and idol-worshipping medium was Balak. In the book of Numbers, as the weary (yet divinely favored) Israelites journeyed, they came to their lodging reservation in the plains of Moab. Don’t forget that God was the One leading them; so if they were to dwell in enemy territory for a season, then so be it. But the enemy in question Moab (another descendant of an incestuosly-spiked disobedience), panicked when they saw the Israelites sprawled in their country-side backyard so to speak. They knew the Israelites to be divinely protected by ‘YAHWEH’ himself, but they still attempted to annihilate them! They were threatened for their positions, titles, gifts (which really are not), spouses, ministry and more importantly a desire to launch into a life-style of gouging and make belief, that was never in the original Master-plan. So based on their perceived threat, they informed the elders and the King of Moab as they skillfully portrayed the ‘victim’ role. Their mantra was simply this: we know these people are highly favored by God, they are incredibly gifted and we foresee a future where they will be used by God Himself to punish us for our wicked, idolatrous and abominable deeds. literally, if we do not take them out now; they will constantly stand as a beacon of conviction for us (breaking our stiff-neck), and a beacon of hope for others that we have and still intend to oppress. ‘The Moabites said to the elders of Midian, “This horde is going to lick up everything around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the field… The elders of Moab and Midian left, taking with them the fee for divination. When they came to Balaam, they told him what Balak had said.” Numbers 22:2-8 Uneasy and uncomforted (the people of Moab and Midian), they sent for a Prophet named Balaam to come and curse the seemingly dangerous and unsuspecting dwellers who were oblivious to the hatred and jealousy projected towards them.

As we all know, Balaam was not able to curse them. After an encounter with the Almighty; where a donkey spoke and his foot was crushed, Balaam saw the need to re-align and relocate (see blog: Re-align, Relocate and Re-group). He set out to bless the still oblivious beloved of the Lord (Israel). After Balaam settled into Jehovah’s camp and hung his breeches to dry, God put a word in his mouth and sent him back to Balak. Now incase you are not feeling it yet, this is God at war on behalf of His beloved… Allow me as I shout Hallelujah!!! What is even more unnerving, aggravating and irksome, is that Balak the idol and devil worshipper; employed the name of God in his evil and God-forsaken quest! Can you believe the nerve…? “[ Balaam’s Third Message ] Then Balak said to Balaam, “Come, let me take you to another place. Perhaps it will please God to let you curse them for me from there.” Numbers 23:26-28 To think that he was implying an alliance with God, when the whole time he was going against GOD HIMSELF! Here is how it all went and finally settled down.

” So he went back to him and found him standing beside his offering, with all the Moabite officials. 7Then Balaam spoke his message:

   “Balak brought me from Aram,
the king of Moab from the eastern mountains.
‘Come,’ he said, ‘curse Jacob for me;
   come, denounce Israel.’
8 How can I curse
those whom God has not cursed?
How can I denounce
those whom the LORD has not denounced?
9 From the rocky peaks I see them,
from the heights I view them.
I see a people who live apart
and do not consider themselves one of the nations.
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob
or number even a fourth of Israel?
Let me die the death of the righteous,
and may my final end be like theirs!”

11Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, but you have done nothing but bless them!”

12He answered, “Must I not speak what the LORD puts in my mouth?” Numbers 23:6-12 (NIV)

Is that not awesome; our sovereign God allowed the enemy to foolishly and blindly attempt the impossible. The impossibility of cursing and defiling the Lord’s anointed one (this anointing has nothing to do with a title or position), or thwarting the purposes and plans of the Most High for a highly favored life. And all the while confidently and ceremoniously playing the victim that was gifted by God. The Bible (Holy word of God) calls them ‘angels of light’, yet they are filled with utmost darkness. White-washed sepulchres, tools of demonic pleasure.

So God Almighty indulged His prophets in what was to come (A Messiah would be born), “And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;” Genesis 18:16-18  He did not give the whole picture or sordid details. They were to faithfully wait for the vision to unfold layer after layer after layer. “3For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” Habakkuk 2:3  The powers and principalities in high places knew that the coming Messiah was the one through whom mankind would be equipped to crush his head and have the choice of not dining with him, come judgement day. He just did not know from where or how it would happen. So when he got whiff of the once sighted ‘star of wonder’ showing up again, he knew that meant the time was near. So he got desperately anxious to say the least and slaughtered every male child two years and below…

The devil does not and will never see the whole picture or fit in all the puzzle before it is revealed; but he works desperately, relentlessly and diligently to come up with possible scenarios that he can if not destroy then delay. God allows this for two known reasons: one he is the devil for a reason and does have a season alloted him to perform. Two: God wants to teach us to wise-up and be just as diligent in protecting our promises. And as He ‘teaches our hands to war’, we gain indispensable knowledge lest we deteriorate and waste away. “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. ‘Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests;” Hosea 4:6   “With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors, but through knowledge the righteous escape.”  Proverbs 11:8-10

Here is the greatest scenario of all time; they hear through the prophets and the spying mediums that Jesus is indeed the Christ and would be the ‘Way to Redemption’. So they fight hard to dis-credit Him among the religious, cast him aside and away from them, (“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone;”) Mark 12:9-11, accuse him falsely and then plan their final attack: betrayal to crucifixion. They are feeling so good… they succeeded after all these years to prevent the plan or so they think. They launch forward and nailed that ‘carpenter’… but wait a pair of minutes, oops! That was the plan: the price could only be paid on the cross through crucifixion. May the hallelujahs roll please. Ours is an Awesome Indescribable and Mighty God!!!

Yeah the seers did snoop out some snippets from my ‘5D heavenly vision and promised life’, but in their evil saturated motives and relentless strikes; God marched in from the back stage and sealed the deal. I am besides myself in jubilation. Feel free to join me – if my God is your God that is…

God Is Holy (Part Two)

Posted on

In ‘God is holy’ (part one) we tried to define the word ‘holy’ as it pertained to God. Without God there would not be holiness or a standard for it. We found out that by description and definition, the very essence and meaning of the word holy was to be consecrated to a thing, as it was to separate from a thing or things. If God was Holy we needed to find out exactly what God was by defining Holy. We also saw that there was nothing greater and purer than God that He could be consecrated to, and it was not possible to separate God from any place, time or situation, because he was every where, every time and in every happening.

We established what it meant for God to be holy. We employed an aspect of the original Hebrew word for Holy ‘Kodesh’ which though meaning separated, was rooted and related to another word that described being boundless and without restriction. We also saw that in Genesis, God consecrated the seventh day of his creation, called it holy and rested on that day. We know that God needs no rest, the scripture tells us that he neither sleeps nor slumbers. We ended part one realizing that the Holiness of God was not just a title for or a definition of God, it was a set standard to be able to relate to him, pray to Him, Worship Him and walk with Him in this world. Of course a choice to walk with God in this life was the only reality and true life anyway.

“For I am the Lord who brings you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.” Leviticus 11:45 NKJV. In Leviticus 11:44,  God invites man into that seemingly ultra-sacred and unattainable place of holiness by a simple command:“…You shall therefore consecrate yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy” NKJV. God was basically saying set your selves apart and be like me. How could God expect that from us knowing that without him we could do nothing. In us lies no strength to live victoriously and righteously. When God called us or chose us, and we made the decision to answer that call and become Christians, we were already called out of the world into consecration. God’s hand and life in us set us apart from the rest of the world. In Exodus 3:5, God tells Moses to take of his shoes, for the ground was holy “Then He said, Do not draw near this place. take your sandals of your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground” NKJV. The ground in itself was not holy, it was a place at which God chose to meet with Moses at that time. That choosing by God, automatically qualified the ground to be holy.

Thus God’s calling or choosing of a time, person or place automatically made it holy. God’s mere acknowledgement bestowed holiness. God is Holy, and everything He touches, is automatically set apart for Him, that thing or person should never be the same again. It may still have the same name, outward appearance and may still be in the same place or position, but God has set it apart for Himself and it should be consecrated. When God told Moses to take of his sandals on holy ground, He was in actuality saying; remove from your person, anything or any person that would cause for you to be separated from God, or come between you and God and what He has set apart and consecrated for you. Do not let anything prevent you from being in direct contact with God once He has set you apart. sin is definitely one thing that could come between us and God.

“Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all you conduct, because it is written, ‘BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.”1 Peter 1:13-16

God has set us apart from the world by consecrating us to Himself, through His Son Jesus Christ. We are not to keep living like we used to, guided by the same lust when we were of the world. Just like God is everywhere in this world but not bound by it (see part one), we are to live in this world but not be a part of it. If the God who called us and equipped us does it, then His Spirit in us aids us to do it. If we say we are of God, then our conduct and way of living has to be holy because our GOD IS HOLY!

God is Holy (Part One)

Posted on

The word ‘Holy’ (as an adjective) means dedicated or consecrated to God, or a religious purpose; sacred. Of a person it means devoted to the service of God; ‘saints and holy men or women.’ So if God is holy, is He now dedicated or consecrated to Himself? How is that standard determined (If it needs to be determined aside from God Himself) and why? (“… He could swear by non greater, He swore by Himself” Hebrews 6:13, Genesis 15:9-18). We also understand the concept of ‘holiness’ in Christianity as entailing separation from the world. A concept that is adopted by almost every other religion. A separation from the mundane and common.

Maybe arguably, (I am not a Bible Scholar so I am not going to split hairs over the argument, besides my mane is amply stressed already!) the first mention and  introduction of the word ‘holy’ in the Holy Bible (the inspired word of God) was in Genesis 2:3: “Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it (made it holy) because in it he rested from all His work which God had created and made”. So God Himself dedicated a day to Himself, thereby consecrating that day because He God rested on that day. We see that the first time ‘holy’ is used in the Bible, it had to do with time and a state of being so to speak.

But why would God need to rest and a specific time to do it if He was God? Is He not supposed to be timeless, (“In the beginning God…” Genesis 1:1) tireless, (“… he who keeps Israel shall neither slumber or sleep” Psalm 121:4) and boundless (Proverbs 30:4, Jeremiah 5:32)? God is not bound by time and space, He is infinite (but we are not going to delve into that topic here and now). He is the infinite God, without a beginning and without an end. Other gods have been known to fall of the shelf and break their necks; thus needing ‘reconstructive surgery’ and ‘cosmetic nip/tuck, some gods just died of sickness or old age. I mean I am not trying to be facetious, these things do happen and I could find it in myself to be empathic for all of two seconds, before the ‘Holy Spirit’ takes over me… Anyway, back to the point at hand. God existed before the world existed; that would be because He created the world and God will still exist long after the world is no more. “The world and all that is in it is a created place and by virtue of being created, is limited in time and space”. AL

Absolutely not coincidentally, the word for ‘Holy’ in Hebrew ‘Kadosh’ is related to a word that means ‘living without bounds and worldly conduct, definitely oblivious to normal rules and regulations of boundaries’. Therefore;  a finite world constrained by time (beginning and end) and limited by space (boundaries and limits) could not possibly contain an infinite God. But it does, because God is everywhere at every time without boundaries. He is omnipresent: ‘always present everywhere.’ Continuously and simultaneously present throughout creation. There in lies the first if not only definition of the Holiness of God. He is not (a part of, separated from) bound by creation, yet he fills every nook, corner and crevice of the world (inhabits, what He is separated from). And very much unaffected by the world He fills. So based on the definition in the first paragraph, God’s Holiness has more to do with us, our needs and protection than as a title to Him.

So with consecration, rest and sacredness; we will see how this applies to our relationship with a Holy God.

God is Love

“… For God is love.” (1 John 4:8 KJV), “… God is Love”. (1 John 4:16 KJV)

The Eternal and Holy God is Love, and love is of Him (1 John 4:7).  He cannot be separated from love because that is who He is even when we do not understand His ways. “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten.” (Revelation 3:19 KJV) Likewise, we cannot be separated from God’s love. “Who shall separate us from the Love of Christ?” (Romans 8:35), “…Nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God.” (Romans 8:39 KJV) Every thing God has done for us and through us stems from His Love for us. “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because He laid down His life for us:..” (1 John 3:16)

“But God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”. (Romans 5:8 KJV) That Love drove Him to make the ultimate sacrifice of His dearly Beloved Son Jesus Christ who became the propitiation for our sins. “For God so loved the world, that he gave His only  begotten Son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). “In this was manifested the love of God towards us: because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him”. (1 john 4:9) “…Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood”. (Revelations 1:5)

God’s grand display of love at the ‘Cross of Calvary’ was to cultivate a relationship with us. He wanted to cleanse us and draw us close to His Holy nature. “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee.” (Jeremiah 31:3 KJV)

Most times in our human frailties, we doubt the love of God for us as He unfailingly assures us. ” I have loved thee, saith the LORD…” (Malachi 1:2 KJV) “As the Father hath loved Me, so I have loved you:…”. (John 15:9 KJV) Even Jesus Himself assured us of the love of God. “For the Father Himself loveth you…” (John 16:27 KJV) The blessed assurance of God’s love gives us hope for another day. “And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our heart by the Holy Ghost…” (Romans 5:5 KJV). And last but not the least, (the attributes and character of God are inexhaustible). the love of God is our protection and confidence in a conflict ridden world. “…In all these things we are more than conquerors; through him that loved us”. (Romans 8:37 KJV)

May the love that God has shown us, cause us to rise above sin and mediocrity in this present age!
